Terrace Bagels, a Park Slope hot spot and said to have the best bagels in NYC, offered the perfect motivation to leave the apartment on such a dreary day. It was walking distance (located on Prospect Park West and 16th Street) from my apartment and journeying through a bit of rain to get there seemed like a necessary sacrifice to partake in something that is so heavenly when it's in your mouth. My aunt wanted to experience New York and this tried-and-true bagel haven epitomized why bagels are such a staple of the city.
If you do go to Terrace Bagels (which you should!), I will forewarn you that there is a method to the long lines inside the shop. Order on the left, then move over to the right to wait and pay. Since I got simply an everything bagel with tofu cream cheese with chives, I didn't actually have to wait in the line to the right, which was nice. In and out, with friendly service to boot!
The tofu cream cheese with chives (heavy on the chives) was delicious and slathered on in abundance. The bagel was simple perfection: warm, slightly crispy and firm on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. I think it's better than H&H Bagels and in my ideal world I would treat myself to a bagel from Terrace Bagels every single Saturday morning.
While I indulged in the most delicious bagel I have had in a long time, I momentarily forgot about the heavy clouds overhead . My aunt Francie, fresh off the plane from Ohio, very much enjoyed her bagel, and I felt I had done my job in sharing the New York love for these boiled breakfast treats.
