First of all, I forgot how great that movie is. It brought back all kinds of memories, including a pre-pubescent crush on the sweaty, pony-tail rockin', young chap whose sister gets her soul sucked out in the first scene. What a heart-breaker.
Any friend of mine can tell you that chocolate is my weakness (I include Nutella in this category). I realize that this is not an uncommon vice and does not distinguish me when it comes to the question of "what to bake?" Hocus Pocus made me want to bake a loaf of pumpkin walnut bread or something along those lines, but having that irresistible urge to at least drizzle chocolate on top, I decided on Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffin Cakes. I got this recipe from Forks. Figs. & Fancy Shoes. The writer of that blog also writes for Serious Eats NY, which I follow religiously and highly recommend if you are a foodie in this city.
The muffin cakes were delicious (even though I fudged the recipe a bit...I blame my distraction on Bette Midler's freaky lips). My roommates owe me big time.
In other foodie news, one of the most fascinating slide shows I have ever seen has recently been posted online. In an adieu effort by the recently folded Gourmet magazine, they compiled a slide show called Food Online: A-Z. The pictures are excellent but don't forsake the accompanying text! They make poignant observations about current trends in the food world and how the internet has become so intertwined in culinary movements. Check out some of those hyperlinks, too. My personal favorite: Pancake For Your Face.
Watching that makes me want pancakes. With chocolate chips, no doubt. (And a dollop of Nutella?)
