Hello to China from the Brooklyn Bowl

This is my best friend, Jake. He's teaching English in China and in this picture he's showing me his Chinese Minute Maid orange juice bottle. Thanks to the wonders of Skype, we are able to keep in contact just about as easily as we could if he were on the West Coast. Today, while communicating through the wonders of cyberspace, he informed me that he couldn't view my blog: China forbade him. So I wanted to say hello to China. Let's be friends. Let my friend see my blog about...

THE BROOKLYN BOWL! Last week a couple friends and I went to the Brooklyn Bowl. It's right around the corner from the Brooklyn Brewery and not only has a 16-lane bowling alley but also (and if you're me, the real draw) food by Blue Ribbon. The food is haute home-cookin' cuisine and the fried chicken with collard greens and mashed potatoes were outstanding. The fried chicken made New York Magazine's Bucket List. I'm not typically tempted by fried but trust me, this fried chicken is not to be missed.

The reason my friends and I went to the Brooklyn Bowl was not for the food (although it could have been). The trip to Williamsburg wasn't even for the bowling. It was for a $5 concert that include the hilariously named DJ Shit Robot, Yacht, and LCD Soundsystem. Surprise!--Brooklyn Bowl is, in addition to everything else, a performance venue! Bowlers to the left, disco ball above. Random. Wonderful.

A great show and great food...great night.
